When it comes time to put your house on the market, make sure it stands out.
There are several things you can do to make sure you’re putting your best seller’s foot forward.
1. Clean. Yes, of course you clean your home, but this time, it needs to be spotless. If that means scrubbing the tile grout with an old toothbrush until it shines, it’s the time to do it.
2. Declutter. Your extravagant collection of giraffe figurines is impressive, and definitely unique, but probably not all buyers are going to be able to picture their sectional couch in your living room if they can’t get past the safari taking up half the room.
3. Deodorize. So you’ve spent the past three days cleaning the walls and floors and counters, but does your house smell? It could be from years of walking on the carpets the house just holds an odor. Don’t turn buyers off by their nose before they have a chance to see the home.
4. Design. Now is the time to rethink your furniture placement. Create a layout that has a simple flow and is functional.
5. Details. Do you have a beautiful dining room table? Set it! Let your potential buyers see what a life in your home could be. Do you have a spectacular front door? Buy a new welcome mat. Can’t decide what to do? Fresh flowers around the house never made a room look bad.
6. Curb appeal. After all that work inside, you’re probably exhausted, but don’t let the outside of your home be forgotten. Trim the hedges, mow the lawn and spiff up any outside furniture or porches, it’s the first thing your potential buyers will see.
