The kitchen is often the space in your home that gets the most use. Conversations often gather around a table and whether you’re cooking or enjoying a meal—a lot happens here. It’s worth the time investment to make your kitchen the space you want it to be, and sometimes that can be as simple as just adding a little color to the space.
Be Bold With Open Shelving
This eye-catching trend isn’t for everyone, but for those who thrive on organization and color coordination, open shelving is for you. Open shelving allows you to boldly showcase your dinnerware, whether it’s neutral or bold, it adds to the theme of the room. It can help space open up and appear brighter, which is an added bonus. If organization is not your cup of tea than this trend may not be for you.
Light it Up
Fun lighting is a great way to bring some color into your kitchen in an unexpected way. Pops of color not only add personality to a space but also make the area feel more like home. Do you have a light fixture that works in the space but isn’t standing out? Try spray painting it a fun color or a bold metallic to make it a focal point. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to subtly change the warmth in a room. This trick can be utilized in any room, not just the kitchen.
Dramatic Decor
Accent pieces are the simplest way to add color to your kitchen, and it’s extremely versatile depending on your style. Incorporating a bright vase with flowers, a fun piece of art or even colorful tea towels could change the feel of your kitchen with ease. Maybe you love the color purple but aren’t ready to transform the entire kitchen to a purple paradise. Try adding a few colorful vases to a shelf or windowsill. If you have open wall space, a piece of art that brings in an accent color and showcases your personality is a fun touch as well.
Accent Wall
Are you ready to be bold? Get out the paint and get ready to commit to an accent wall. It can always be repainted if you end up not enjoying the pop of color, but an accent wall is an excellent way to completely transform a space without the need for construction or demolition. The wall can be accented with paint, wallpaper, tile, or wood paneling. The possibilities are endless.
Have a Seat
Bright, bold, and fun seats are an interesting and impermanent way to change the style of your kitchen. Changing up the cushions on your kitchen table chairs, spray painting stools, or adding fun pillows to end chairs is an easy way to spice up the space.
Curtain Call
A super simple way to modify the look of your kitchen is by changing out your curtains (or adding some) equipped with color. Vibrant curtains can give a dull kitchen new life in seconds. If the kitchen has a window, consider the option of curtains. Floor length sheer curtains can add a light and airy feel to a room, while dramatic jewel-toned heavier fabrics can add an air of elegance to an otherwise modest kitchen. Curtains have become a focal point in an outdated kitchen, pulling the eye away from less-than-ideal cabinetry or countertops.
Temporary Backsplashes
If you’re looking to change things up on a budget, a new tile backsplash may be out of the question, but there are plenty of other options available. Companies now offer peel-and-stick tiles that resemble shiplap, subway tile, even marble. High-end contact paper can transform the shabbiest of spaces into chic.
