How to Decorate with Pantone’s Color of the Year: Living Coral

By Erin McFeeters

Every year Pantone’s color experts choose a color they believe will encompass the themes of the year to come. Pantone’s 2019 color, Living Coral, celebrates coral reefs in hopes to bring people together through natural experiences rather than digital ones. If you find this bold and bright color to be intimidating, there are plenty of ways to incorporate it in a more subtle approach.

Coordinate Your Color Palettes

You can’t just decorate with Living Coral anywhere and expect it to blend in. This color makes a statement, so choose a color palette that compliments. Colors such as gray, tan, and white coordinate with Living Coral and help the color stand out. Not feeling confident with your coordinating skills?  Pantone released five different color palettes that will help you bring Living Coral into your home. Find them here.

Don’t Go Overboard

Living Coral is a prominent color on its own, so don’t go out on a frenzy buying everything in sight. Start small and if you discover coral suites your style then continue to add different elements to your home. Small DIY accents like painting drawer fronts to revitalize furniture or spray-painting glass vases are simple ways to bring color in without breaking the bank.

A Plethora of Pillows

Pillows go with sofas as homebuyers go with Realtors®. They’re one of the easiest ways to add color to any room, so why not accent with some Living Coral inspired pillows in your sunroom or family room for a fun touch. Invest in new pillows or DIY pillow covers—they can make all the difference in the feeling a room conveys.

Pattern Party

Patterns are the perfect playmate for Living Coral. There are limitless possibilities when it comes to patterns—stripes, polka dots, or chevron —will give life to any room as a throw rug, curtains, or if you’re feeling daring, even an accent wall. Don’t be afraid to experiment with designs and colors to compliment this vibrant, natural color.
