2023 Color of the Year

By Lisa Fant

It’s that time of year again: 2023 colors of the year have been announced by interior designers, major brands, and color experts—forecasting color trends we’re sure to see in the design landscape ahead.

While earth tones emanate warmth, calming and contemporary appeal, bolder colors can express optimism, joy, or new beginnings. Many homeowners are becoming less interested in neutral minimalism and are becoming more connected to their homes as a space for creative expression.

Whether you’re seeking inspiration for new painting projects and home décor or want to fast-forward to the new wave of trends, these 2023 Color of the Year choices will inspire you to consider how color can make you and your home feel.

Pantone: Viva Magenta

Pantone’s Color of the Year, Viva Magenta, is a stand-out statement shade of carmine red. Described as “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time,” Viva Magenta is a powerful, fun tone on brand with trending bold statement colors in the home.

According to Pantone, “It is an animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.”

This vivid shade can add a pop of color as a velour chair or velvet couch in a neutral room or use it as a striking accent wall.

Benjamin Moore: Raspberry Blush

The 2023 Benjamin Moore Color of the Year is a vivacious, coral-red built to make a statement. Embracing positivity and excitement, Raspberry Blush is a dramatic shade that can be incorporated in your home as an accent, paired with a lighter neutral, or go bold with an arch, trim, or wall..

Dutch Boy: Rustic Greige

Included in Dutch Boy’s 2023 Color Trend palettes – Plush, Wistful, and Botanic, the brand describes Rustic Greige as “a sense of deep-rooted comfort.”

There’s nothing ordinary about this versatile neutral, perfect for any place in the home. Dutch Boy’s 2023 Color of the Year gets back to basics as a cool hue to encourage the calm and coziness that many homeowners look to incorporate in their homes.

Krylon: Spanish Moss

With sustainability and connections to nature trending in 2023, Krylon’s Spanish Moss balances the comfort and familiarity of the outdoors with an inviting, contemporary style that pairs well with various textures and projects indoors or outdoors.
